Therapy For General Weakness

Debility or generalized overall body weakness can result in loss of strength, flexibility, balance, and endurance. It can interfere with the ability to perform normal activities such as cooking, shopping, cleaning, or self-care. General weakness is more common in the elderly population but can occur in younger people following trauma, disease, and prolonged bed rest.

Symptoms of General Weakness

  • Pain

  • Fatigue

  • Falls or fear of falling

  • Decreased strength and endurance

  • Fear of getting off the couch or off the toilet

  • General sense of uneasiness, discomfort, or depression

  • Limited ability to do day-to-day activities

Treatment options may include:

  • Education

  • Balance exercises

  • Endurance exercises

  • Slowly increasing activity level
