Treatment For Vertigo

While both dizziness and vertigo are considered balance problems, the two symptoms are different. Dizziness is an overall feeling of being unbalanced, while vertigo is the sensation that you’re moving or that your surroundings are spinning. Vertigo can make you feel dizzy and off balance and the symptoms worsen with movement of the head or body, such as rolling over in bed or bending down to pick something up.  If aggravated, vertigo can also be associated with lightheadedness, nausea, or even vomiting.

Common Causes of Vertigo

The most common cause of vertigo is a mechanical displacement of the inner ear “crystals,” or particles in the inner ear. These particles can be dislodged and then create a false sense of movement.

Common symptoms associated with Vertigo

  • Vestibular issues in the inner ear

  • Inner-ear infection

  • Inflammation of the nerves

  • Meniere’s disease

  • Strokes

  • Tumors

Treatment of Vertigo

Treatment involves identifying the affected canal and then treating using the Epley Maneuver. The Epley Maneuver is a system of prescribed movement patterns designed to reposition the crystals in their appropriate place.
